Shea McNanie was born premature and weighed less than two pounds. She spent three months in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at UC San Diego Medical Center. Her parents refer to her as a miracle. Twenty-five years later, Shea is thriving and now volunteers as a “cuddler” in the NICU at Jacobs Medical Center. Shea describes holding and comforting the hospital’s tiniest patients as the best thing she has ever done. Watch the day Shea and her family came full circle as she volunteered in the NICU with her parents by her side. Learn more about the NICU at UC San Diego Health
